Slovak PM Robert Fico is in a critical but stable condition after being shot multiple times in an incident described by officials as a “political assault.” The 59-year-old leader underwent lengthy surgery as medical teams fought to save his life. The attack has sparked international condemnation. Reflecting on the surgery, Deputy PM Tomas Taraba optimistically told the BBC, “I guess in the end he will survive. He’s not in a life-threatening situation at this moment.”
