Important to make a winning start: Pollard

Port-of-Spain, June 6 (IANS) West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard feels they have to make an early impact in the five-match ODI series against world champions India and get off to a winning start.

He had a good work-out Sunday morning as West Indies had a full three-hour training session at Queen’s Park Oval ahead of the first ODI here Monday.

‘It is a matter of getting off to a good start and try to get the team off to a winning start,’ Pollard said.

‘We have a very good team. We have a lot of players who have done well at the international level and I’m sure they will be looking to perform well at this level. We are fully aware of what is required and we will be looking to go out and do the job.’

Pollard said he is looking to contribute in all the three departments.

‘I have been training well and I am eagerly looking ahead to this series. My form is there and I am hitting the ball well.

‘There is a lot of cricket to be played and and I am looking to make a positive impact in the series,’ the 24-year-old said.

Playing at home here makes it more special for Pollard.

‘It is always special to play in front of friends and family and people I have known all my life. The key is to get off to a good start and maintain that momentum. The Indians have a good bunch of guys and they are a young team. They have a lot of talent. We will try to exploit any the weaknesses in their team.’
