Eight drown as Chinese cargo ship sinks

Beijing, Feb 18 (IANS) At least eight crewmembers of a Chinese cargo ship drowned Saturday when their vessel sank off the country’s southeastern coast.

By noon, one person was saved, eight bodies were recovered and two people were missing, Xinhua reported.
The Xinyuanshun 6 vessel was carrying 5,000 tonnes of pottery clay to Shandong province when it sank around 3 a.m., a spokesman for maritime rescue centre said.
The vessel might have capsized after goods slid to one side of its hold, he added.
Eleven boats and two helicopters were involved in the rescue.
