CAB joint secretary surrenders in court, gets bail

Kolkata, July 13 (IANS) Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Biswarup Dey Friday surrendered before a city court which had issued an arrest warrant against him on a complaint made by the West Bengal fire services department two years back in a case related to the Indian Premier League.

Dey gave himself up before the seventh metropolitan magistrate of Bankshall Court and was given bail on a personal bond of Rs.1.000. The fire department had lodged the FIR on March 15, 2010 about a temporary plywood structure which functioned as a super hospitality box at the Eden Gardens sitting premium category spectators during matches involving the Kolkata Knight Riders.
According the fire services department, the structure allegedly did not conform to its guidelines and safety regulations.
In the chargesheet produced before the court, the Maidan police station showed Dey as absconding in March 2010 when the FIR was lodged.
However, Dey’s counsel Milan Mukherjee showed documents to buttress his argument that his client was holding regular meetings with top administrative and city police officers at the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings and police headquarters at Lalbazar in March 2010.
So it would not be proper to say that he was absconding, he argued.
