Flag Foundation to maintain flagpole at Connaught Place

New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) The Flag Foundation of India (FFI) has assured the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) that it would take care of the upkeep of the largest national flag in the country hoisted at the Central Park in Connaught Place here, an official said Wednesday.

Cdr. (retd.) K.V. Singh, Flag Foundation of India CEO, in a letter to NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava, said the tricolour is the pride of the nation and displaying it an honour, according to an NDMC spokesperson.
The Flag Foundation of India will bear all the expenses on upkeep and maintenance of the Monumental Flagpole, Cdr Singh said in the letter, adding this will ensure that the dignity of the national flag was maintained.
The tricolour, which is 90 feet by 60 feet, is flown atop a 207-foot tall mast. There are 12 such flag poles in the country but this national flag, installed March 7 last, is the largest.
The NDMC permitted the FFI to install the flagpole in the Central Park of Connaught Place here and is bearing the cost of electricity etc. at the site.
