Tamils’ rehabilitation in Sri Lanka unsatisfactory: Karunanidhi

Chennai, Oct 3 (IANS) DMK President M. Karunanidhi Wednesday expressed his dissatisfaction at the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally-displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting here of Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO), Karunanidhi said the rehabilitation and resettlement of Tamils in the island nation were not satisfactory, according to information received by him.
He said Tamils in Sri Lanka were facing continued harassment and urged India to cooperate in extending its help in the resettlement process.
Karunanidhi said he never believed the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka would allow Tamils to live peacefully.
He said DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin and parliamentary leader T.R. Baalu would submit resolutions passed at the recent TESO conference to the United Nations (UN).
Karunanidhi said the central government had given permission for the two party leaders to visit the UN and meet the secretary general.
He said several issues, including demilitarisation of Tamil areas in Sri Lanka, would be conveyed to the UN.
