Cheating couple promising new cars for old arrested

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) A couple cheating people by promising them new vehicles in exchange for their old ones have been arrested from south Delhi, police said Friday.

‘Hemant Seth and his wife, residents of Malviya Nagar, were arrested from their home Thursday for cheating V.N. Gupta, a resident of Maurya Enclave in north Delhi, of over Rs 2.9 lakh,’ said a senior police officer.

Police said that they sold Gupta’s car and gave him a cheque for Rs 2.9 lakh, which bounced. They also took two cheques worth Rs.1.35 lakh and Rs 1.63 lakh from Gupta for providing two new vehicles.

‘The couple, after getting the cheques, encashed them, closed their office and fled,’ said the officer. Gupta lost his car and Rs. 2.98 lakh.

During interrogation, the couple told police that thet used to lure customers on pretext of providing them new vehicles in exchange of their old vehicles and so far they had cheated eight people.
