Saurashtra could be hit by 5-metre high tidal waves: officials

Gandhinagar, July 24 (Inditop.com) Tidal waves as high as five metres are likely to hit Gujarat’s Saurashtra coast Friday evening, officials said.

This could worsen the flood situation on the state’s west coast, officials of the state flood control room here said.

The warning comes close on a similar alert sounded in Mumbai Friday morning to watch out for similar high tidal waves.

The coastal region of Navlakhi in Gujarat is experiencing tidal waves as high as 7.45 metres from early Friday due to squall blowing since Thursday midnight, a control room official said.

The rescue teams which are already spread out in the entire coastal belt of Dwarka, Porbander, Veraval, Mangrol and Chorwad have been alerted as the tidal waves may bring more water into the already inundated regions in these areas.

All ports officials in the Saurashtra-Kutch region have been alerted to watch out for high tides in the Arabian sea and take precautions..
