Jharkhand wants industrial corridor like Delhi-Mumbai one

New Delhi/Ranchi, Aug 6 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Monday urged the Planning Commission to plan an industrial corridor in Jharkhand like the Delhi-Mumbai Corridor.

Munda made the request during a meeting with Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahuwalia in New Delhi and said Jharkhand should be given “special grants in different sectors” keeping in view the mineral-rich state’s position in the country.
The Commission finalised the state’s annual plan for 2012-13 at Rs.16,300 crore.
Munda asked central assistance of Rs.800 crore for setting up buildings in the capital and another Rs.500 crore for developing infrastructure of a “knowledge city”.
Munda also sought special assistance to fight Maoist problem prevailing in 19 of the 24 districts and drought- like situation in the state. Jharkhand has received 35 per cent less normal this year.
Ahluwalia said the state should give special attention to road transport and health care needs during the 12th Plan period (2012-17).
Munda said his government would stress on infrastructure development with private participation and step up efforts to improve health care and education.
He said the State would pursue an ambitious 10 per cent growth in the 12th plan to double per capita income by 2016-17.
