Syria to attend Moscow talks on resolving internal conflict

Damascus, Dec 27 (IANS) The Syrian government said Saturday that it is ready to be a part of the upcoming Russia-sponsored talks in Moscow to discuss ways to end the long-running conflict in the country.

Syria’s readiness to participate in the talks to be held next month emanates from its keenness to live up to the Syrians’ expectations of finding a way out of the current crisis, the Syrian foreign ministry said, stressing that it would keep fighting terrorism on Syrian soil, reported Xinhua.
The ministry also said that countering terrorism would continue hand in hand with the ongoing efforts to establish national reconciliation in the war-torn country.
It added that the Syrian government was ready to hold dialogue with everyone who believed in the unity and sovereignty of the country.
Official Russian media had said that a four-day meeting was scheduled to be held between the representatives of the Syrian government and opposition parties in Moscow by the end of January 2015.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had told the ITAR-TASS news agency in December that the opportunity to resume dialogue on the Syrian crisis was improving.
