Ramsar (Rajasthan), Aug 29 (Inditop.com) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday said that Pokhran-II was successful and an “unnecessary controversy” was being kicked up over the 1998 nuclear test.
“Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has already clarified it and described it as successful,” he said. “Unnecessary controversy is being created about the Pokhran test.”
The prime minister spoke to reporters while visiting a National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme camp at Ramsar village, 20 km from Barmer.
His comments on the nuclear test come after former Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist K. Santhanam said that Pokhran-II was not a complete success.
However, Kalam, who was then director general of DRDO, said the nuclear test was a success and this had been proved by data.
