Mayawati using official residence for political ends: Congress

Lucknow, Aug 28 ( The Congress party has criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for using her official residence for “political” purposes.

Referring to a two-day meeting of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national executive that was held at the chief minister’s residence, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) media cell chief Vivek Singh termed the move as “unprecedented.”

In a statement Friday, Singh said: “Never before have I heard a chief minister holding a formal meeting of his or her party at the officially designated CM house.”

He said: “Mayawati is known to be carrying out most of her official business from the chief minister’s official residence; but using the official residence for political meetings is not done.”

The chief minister’s residence is on Kalidas Marg. The BSP conclave ended Thursday.

Singh, a vocal Congress legislator, proposes to lead a delegation to Governor P.C. Joshi Saturday seeking his intervention in the matter.

“We will not only urge the governor to demand an explanation from Mayawati for such gross misuse of the CM’s official residence but also demand appropriate action against her,” Singh emphasized.
