Kolkata, Aug 12 (IANS) Tension prevailed in the Maoist-infested Binpur area of West Bengal’s West Midnapore district following the recovery of four decomposed bodies, including those of two women, from a ditch Thursday night.
West Midnapore Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mukesh Kumar said: ‘The local people informed the police that four bodies were lying in a ditch in Panchyara village near Binpur in the district. A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the decomposed bodies.’
‘The bodies were brought to Binpur police station for identification but were so decomposed that it is quite difficult for us to identify them. Out of the four bodies, two are of women,’ he said.
‘Many people went missing in last few months and these bodies might be of those missing people. An investigation has been initiated into the matter,’ the ASP said.
Meanwhile, the local people have identified one of the bodies as that of Monothosh Singh of a neighbouring village. He was identified by his son.
Singh was missing since July 22, said a senior police officer.
Maoist guerrillas have been involved in a spate of abductions in Binpur and various other parts of the district for over a year. The rebels are also active in Bankura and Purulia districts.
