Meerut, Jan 21 (IANS) A doctor, in his 40s, was found murdered in his clinic here, police said Saturday.
The incident came to light around 11.30 p.m. Friday when a staff nurse found the stripped body of Akshay Rajvanshi in the labour room of the clinic — Yashoda Maternity and Child Care Centre.
Police said Rajvanshi, a child specialist, was murdered by unidentified criminals.
Nurse Anjum told the police that around 11.00 p.m. she received a call from the doctor’s wife, Sujata, who is a gynaecologist practicing in the same clinic, that Rajvanshi had not reached home.
Anjum then looked for him in the clinic, and found his body in the labour room.
A red cloth and a wire were found wrapped around his neck, which suggested that the doctor was strangulated. An empty whisky bottle and glasses too were found lying in the room.
‘We are investigating the case. His viscera has been preserved to ascertain whether the doctor was administered some poisonous substance. Forensic evidences have been collected from the spot,’ Inspector General of Police Rajiv Krishna said.
Rajvanshi is survived by his wife and two sons.
