Cash, valuables looted from Ghaziabad contractor’s house

Ghazaiabad, March 23 (IANS) Armed robbers, aware of the presence of a large sum of money, looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs.40 lakh from a building contractor’s house here at gunpoint Saturday, police said.

Police said that the four robbers reached the house of the contractor Shahid, on plot No.77, Vikram Enclave at about 4 p.m. and rang the bell. As soon as Shahid’s son opened the gate, the robbers barged in and held Shahid, his wife Saira Bano and son hostage on gun point.
The robbers said they knew Shahid had sold a plot for Rs.35 lakh and the cash was still lying in the house. When the family surrendered the money, the robbers asked Shahid’s wife to take off the jewellery, worth Rs.5 lakh, she was wearing and give it to them.
The family members initially tried to resist but gave up when robbers held guns at their heads and told them they had just shot a person outside the house and their blood-stained foot marks were evidence.
After taking away all the available valuables, the robbers fled after bolting the house from outside. The family members then shouted for help, alerting the neighbours who freed them and informed police.
The man shot by the robbers was identified as Jugal Kishore and taken to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where his condition is said to be critical.
“The incident occurred after the information leaked to the robbers that the victim was executing a sale deed of a plot. Police are investigating the case and would solve at the earliest” said Superintendent of Police (City) Shiv Shankar Yadav.
